This role is ideal for someone who is not only a strong technical leader but also has deep expertise in finance, markets, and securities regulation. You will work at the intersection of technology and finance, guiding the development of scalable, high-performance systems that handle complex financial data, trading, risk management, and compliance. What You'll Do Team Leadership & Growth • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented backend and financial systems engineers • Hire and develop high-caliber engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation Technical Architecture & Strategy • Architect and oversee the development of high-performance financial infrastructure • Drive technical strategy and execution for systems that handle trading, risk management, portfolio analytics, and regulatory compliance • Provide hands-on technical guidance in backend development, distributed systems, and financial engineering System Performance & Reliability • Ensure financial systems are highly available, low-latency, and secure • Optimize performance for handling high-throughput trading, risk calculations, and financial data processing • Define best practices for engineering excellence, security, and operational reliability Cross-Functional Collaboration • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and compliance teams to build innovative financial products Regulatory Compliance • Stay up-to-date with financial regulations (SEC, FINRA, MiFID, Basel III) and ensure systems meet compliance requirements What We're Looking For Experience & Leadership • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years managing engineering teams • Proven ability to hire, mentor, and grow high-caliber engineers • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with finance, legal, and product teams Technical Expertise • Strong background in backend development with expertise in Go, C++, Java, or Rust • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, high-frequency trading, and real-time financial data processing • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, caching strategies, and event-driven architectures Financial Markets Knowledge • Deep understanding of financial markets, trading systems, ETFs, bonds, derivatives, and risk management • Experience working with financial APIs, FIX protocol, market data feeds, and order management systems • Solid grasp of securities regulation and compliance frameworks (SEC, FINRA, MiFID, Basel III) Bonus Points • Experience building trading platforms, brokerage infrastructure, or financial analytics systems • Background in quantitative finance, financial modeling, or algorithmic trading • Knowledge of fixed income markets • Mathematics or quant experience Position Details Experience Required 8+ years engineering, 3+ years management Technical Focus Financial systems, trading infrastructure Location New York City or Remote Team Core Engineering Team Why Join DORA?
